About Me

I'm Alex Penrod, a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and licensed chemical dependency counselor (LCDC) based in Austin, Texas. I founded Neuro Nuance Therapy and EMDR, PLLC to offer personalized, neuroscience-informed trauma therapy for adults navigating PTSD, childhood trauma, and complex life experiences.

With a background in clinical mental health and addiction treatment, my work is grounded in the belief that healing is not only possible, it’s deeply personal and deserving of personalized attention. My goal is to help trauma survivors reclaim their lives with insight, integration, and compassion.

My Approach to Trauma Therapy

I specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, integrating it with parts work, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and ego state therapy to support clients dealing with:

  • PTSD and complex trauma

  • Developmental and attachment wounds

  • Dissociation and emotional numbing

  • Shame, grief, and identity struggles

What makes my work unique is a focus on both the neuroscience of trauma and the inner world of parts who protect and hold what is too overwhelming to face. Whether we’re working with past memories, regulating and coping with the present, or internal conflicts, I help clients safely process stuck material and move toward internal harmony, not just symptom relief.

Why I Do This Work

Trauma disconnects us from who we are. It fragments memory, warps meaning, and silences parts of the self that are still longing to be heard. I’ve seen firsthand how trauma therapy, when done at the right pace, with the right support, can help people come home to themselves and reconnect. You don’t have to keep surviving. You deserve to start living.

Let’s Work Together

If you're looking for a trauma therapist in Austin, or anywhere in Texas via telehealth, I invite you to explore whether EMDR therapy may be right for you. Healing takes courage, but you don’t have to do it alone.
