Online EMDR and Trauma Therapy for Lucas, Fairview, and the Lovejoy Area

Specialized EMDR therapy for PTSD, complex trauma, dissociation, and attachment wounds.

Heal your past, Reclaim your present, Build your future

Life doesn’t have to look like it’s falling apart on the outside to feel that way on the inside.

You may be capable, dependable, and accustomed to handling difficult things on your own. Other people may rely on you. You may have a successful career, a family, and a life you worked hard to create. But unresolved aspects of the past can resurface despite your best attempts to move on.

Trauma is not always visible from the outside. It can look like staying composed, anticipating problems before they happen, working harder than everyone around you, avoiding conflict until you suddenly cannot, or understanding your history without being able to change the reactions it still produces.

After years of coping and performing, there comes a time when moving forward looks like reaching out for support and healing.

A Practice Designed For Busy Adults

Neuro Nuance Therapy and EMDR was designed to help adults in this exact situation find discreet, confidential support for healing from past trauma and PTSD. We provide specialized online trauma therapy for adults in Lucas, TX, Fairview, and the Lovejoy area. Our work uses EMDR therapy to address PTSD, complex trauma, dissociation, attachment wounds, and experiences that remain active long after the original danger has passed.

Treatment is designed for people who want to understand what is happening beneath the surface and work directly with the memories, beliefs, protective responses, and emotional patterns that continue to interfere with their lives.

Alex Penrod, MS, LPC, LCDC

Founder & EMDR Therapist

I’m Alex Penrod, MS, LPC, LCDC, a licensed professional counselor and the founder and therapist behind Neuro Nuance Therapy and EMDR. I created this practice specifically for adults living with PTSD, complex trauma, dissociation, attachment wounds, and the lasting effects of difficult experiences.

My work is centered on EMDR therapy and informed by parts work, ego state therapy, and a phase-oriented approach to trauma treatment. This allows therapy to move beyond simply talking about what happened and toward addressing the memories, beliefs, protective responses, and nervous system patterns that continue to shape your life.

Many of the people I work with have spent years functioning well on the surface while managing distress privately. They are often thoughtful, capable, and highly self-aware, but insight alone has not changed the reactions that continue to surface.

Neuro Nuance was designed to offer specialized trauma treatment with depth, discretion, and respect for the complexity of each person’s experience.

I welcome new clients from all walks of life. To learn more about how I can help you find lasting healing, schedule your free 15-minute consultation with me. I’d love to learn more about your goals and answer any questions you may have.

How We Help

Trauma can affect far more than memory. It may shape how you respond to stress, navigate life transitions, experience relationships, understand yourself, and move through everyday life.

Our work is designed to help adults address patterns that continue after difficult or complex experiences, including:

  • Persistent anxiety, hypervigilance, or difficulty relaxing

  • Emotional numbness, shutdown, or dissociation

  • Shame, self-criticism, and negative beliefs about yourself

  • Irritability, defensiveness, or reactions that feel disproportionate

  • Difficulty trusting others or feeling secure in relationships

  • Intrusive memories, nightmares, or unwanted reminders of the past

  • Avoidance, overworking, perfectionism, or the need to stay in control

  • Feeling stuck despite understanding where your reactions come from

  • Burnout, depression, or emotional exhaustion that persists despite continued functioning

  • Difficulty developing self-trust or changing an attachment style shaped by earlier relational wounds

Individual therapy is tailored to your history, current symptoms, and therapy goals. Treatment may include EMDR therapy, parts work, ego state therapy, trauma-informed counseling, and other trauma-focused approaches based on your capacity for deeper processing.

EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, commonly called EMDR therapy, is designed to help the brain process experiences that continue to feel active long after they are over. Rather than relying only on insight or traditional talk therapy, EMDR works directly with the memories, beliefs, emotions, and physical responses connected to unresolved trauma.

EMDR may help with:

  • PTSD symptoms and traumatic memories

  • Complex trauma and developmental trauma

  • Triggers that feel automatic or difficult to control

  • Persistent shame, fear, or self-blame

  • Attachment wounds and relationship patterns

  • Dissociation and emotional disconnection

  • Experiences that remain distressing despite previous therapy

Treatment is paced carefully and adapted to your needs. For people with complex trauma or dissociation, preparation and stabilization may come before deeper trauma processing.

A Thoughtful Approach to Trauma Treatment

Not everyone is ready to begin processing traumatic memories immediately. For many people, especially those living with complex trauma or dissociation, effective treatment begins by building stability, strengthening internal resources, and developing a greater sense of safety before deeper processing begins.

Therapy takes place in a client-centered space and is tailored to your individual needs rather than following a rigid protocol. Depending on your history and goals, treatment may integrate:

  • EMDR therapy

  • Parts work and ego state therapy

  • Attachment-based therapy

  • Emotional regulation and nervous system stabilization

  • Resource development and preparation for trauma processing

  • Cognitive and behavioral strategies when appropriate

  • Assistance with developing communication skills, anger management, conflict resolution skills, and healthy lifestyle practices to support stability between sessions

Our approach goes beyond discussing the past. Trauma-focused therapy aims to help the past become less disruptive to your present so you can respond with greater flexibility, emotional resilience, confidence, and choice.

Expected Benefits of EMDR Therapy

EMDR therapy is intended to reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic memories and help the nervous system respond as though the danger is no longer happening in the present.

Depending on your history and treatment goals, EMDR may help you:

  • Feel less overwhelmed by reminders of the past

  • Reduce hypervigilance, anxiety, and automatic threat responses

  • Respond to triggers with greater flexibility and control

  • Develop more balanced beliefs about yourself and what happened

  • Experience less shame, fear, anger, or self-blame

  • Feel more present and connected in relationships

  • Build greater self-trust and emotional resilience

  • Move forward without relying as heavily on avoidance, overworking, or emotional shutdown

While there are no psychotherapies that can guarantee results, EMDR is one of the most highly studied therapies for trauma with high success rates for achieving remission from PTSD. Progress is evaluated throughout therapy, and treatment is adjusted based on your response, readiness, and goals.
